Highways cradle Tigard, but off those roads there's so much more...
Nov 26/07
Interstate 5, Oregon 99W and Oregon 217 traverse the
city, where John Tigard set up a household... A highway runs through
it, three of them, in fact: Tigard is blessed and cursed with the
unmatched regional access that comes from bordering Interstate 5,
straddling Oregon 217 and being spitted on Oregon 99W, which could
traverse more of the city only by serpentining across the map. The
benefit of that confluence is that Tigard has become a regional hub
and home to manufacturing and transport businesses that need access to
the highway web with a minimum of hassle...

The inner state of interstate Interstate Avenue...
Nov 10/07
From the driver's seat, Interstate Avenue looks like
just another long stretch of urban landscape -- busy, cluttered and,
at times, undeniably ugly. Starting at the Oregon Convention Center,
the street hugs the old industrialized eastern waterfront, rises to
sweeping views of downtown and finally flattens into an evolving
collection of markets, garages, bars, squat 1950s-era apartments and
budget motels. On foot, however, Interstate is much more...
