After four agonizing days, Interstate 5 finally opened
up all its north and south bound lanes to all vehicles on Friday
shortly before noon. And while the interstate is open, the speed limit
on I-5 between Grand Mound and Chehalis has been dropped to 50 mph
until permanent repairs are completed. The Washington State Department
of Transportation repaired road damage, breached a dike and then
waited for the final flood waters to recede. When the waters drained,
WSDOT engineers were heartened the damage was less than they had

reopen here is Friday, state transportation officials said Wednesday.
The main artery between Portland and Seattle, I-5 was shut down in
both directions Monday when the Chehalis River swelled and overran its
banks. The river was forecast to recede below flood stage early
Wednesday. But that doesn't mean I-5 will instantly reopen...

Weather-related problems pop up all over the Portland
area as Sunday's storm spills into Monday. Several area highways are
closed because of the storm as were all arteries leading to the Oregon
Coast, where hurricane force winds caused power and telephone outages.
Damage in the area was also extensive. Highways shut down by the storm
include U.S. 26, the Sunset Highway, U.S. 30, the lower Columbia River
Highway and Highway 6. Highway 18 has a closure in place from milepost
1 to 17 and Highway 101 is shut down south of Astoria and between

Office has issued a rare hurricane-force wind warning of up to 100 mph

snow advisory from noon to 6 p.m. today for the Portland and Vancouver
metro areas, the lower Columbia River basin and the Interstate 5

sticking snow is expected to be around 500 feet early in the afternoon
